It didn't seem like more than a week ago since my last post, but the calendar does not lie. Here's a quick Three On Thursday to remedy my laziness.
1. We spent the weekend at the lakehouse, where Rick is replacing the deck. Sunday was an unexpectedly gorgeous day, and we spent a large amount of it sitting on the dock in the sunshine. Since it was my birthday, we did a little Day Drinking and waved at the people who floated by in their boats. We were more than a little envious that they already had their boats in the water, but since warm days are so few and far between right now, we know we still have time. Right now, the deck is Priority One.
2. On our way home, we talked about what the heck to have for dinner. We were very tempted to stop at the ice cream stand on our way home (you know the one), especially when we saw this:
They were doing a decent business, and there was a moderate amount of social distancing. No specialty pizza was offered because this news was Too Big to share the sign. It was on both sides.
3. Sam was recently behind this truck and snapped a photo. He sent it to me immediately. I know you'll be positively astonished by its awfulness.
You don't no weather two laugh or cry, due you? Sigh.

I hope you have a lovely weekend. For those of you who are Mothers, have a lovely Mother's Day. For those of you who, like my brother, are not technically a Mother but have been one for all intents and purposes, it is Your Day as well. It will likely not be like other Mother's Days past, but it does not change the fact that you are a Mother, no matter what.
And chocolate is back!
Sounds like you've been having a relaxing time. Ice cream is good any time! And that truck...Proofread much?!
ReplyDeleteMinerva--Well, that part, anyway. Being at the lake is generally relaxing (at least for me). That truck is a Tragedy.
DeleteAs a lifelong Ohioan I have no trouble looking at that truck and going... but of course, then rolling my eyes. As much as my elementary school tried, you can't cure stupid-- then they moved them on to middle school then high school. Irritating as poor grammar is, I've learned to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteAlly Bean--It almost looks like a case of ESL. And professionally done, too! The fact that my son sent it to me is the one thing that gladdens my heart.
DeleteNow I want chocolate ice cream and a ride to a lake...any lake. I need a road trip!!!!
ReplyDeleteJean--I hear you. Going to the lake makes me forget this pandemic. We feel so relaxed there. Lots more room, simpler situation. The people are careful to social distance, but we see few and far between.
DeleteJust being outdoors is a big boost. I don't go anyplace just to drive; it's depressing when you can't get out of the car and DO anything. But a change of scenery--I get you.
Aww soon you will be on the water too. IT still sounded lovely.
ReplyDeleteWe are planning Saturday calls as I am predicting all cyberspace will collapse with all of us face booking or zooming our moms/aunts/sisters etc!
i Want vegan ice cream from maggie moos but they aren't social distancing!
kathy b--Yes, I know we will, soon enough. And the boat needs a little sprucing up before we do.
DeleteGood thinking on your part. This will be a hugely Remote Mother's Day, and I hate to think of all who will be disappointed by exactly what you predict.
I hope you can find some alternative treat to keep you happy.
Happy Mother's Day Nance!
ReplyDeleteHi, Karen! So nice to see you! Thank you. I hope you're well and happy.
DeleteDee--Right? Although, I know that the two are not necessarily complementary.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I have a pint of Haagen Dazs in the freezer and a few hidden Hershey Bars. I'll be good.
Happy Mother's Day, my friend..
ReplyDeleteDenise--Thank you! I hope you've been well!
DeleteI'm so happy to see that chocolate is back! And I still contend that it is BIZARRE that it goes away in the winter. What. The. Actual. Heck.
ReplyDeleteSure, the grammar on that truck is bad, but can we talk about that font too? I mean. I'm sitting at my desk, zooming in on it, & can hardly read it. I can't imagine trying to read it from my car behind the truck.
I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!
Bug--I hear you on Chocolate. Speaking of, I hunted in vain for the huge Hershey bars at the grocery store today. None. Nada. Zip. Rick will be devastated. CHOCOLATE! COME BACK!
DeleteListen, you are preaching to the choir on that whole deal. The font is miserable, the grammar/spelling is miserable; the fact that it was a professional job is miserable. Rick says he sees that truck all the time at Home Depot and HE NEVER NOTICED THE SLOGAN. AARRRGGHH.
Thank you, dearie. The weather here will be horrid. We had flurries today. OF SNOW. I am hibernating right now.
Not exactly a command of English, I’d say.
ReplyDeleteJoared--Or much more than a passing acquaintance!
DeleteHappy late birthday and Mother's Day. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteMeredith--Thank you. I will; you do likewise.
DeleteAnd to think that someone paid for that lettering on their truck? Yikes!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday belatedly and Happy Mother's Day belatedly.
Vera--Right?! Perhaps it is a case of barter, or his cousin's brother-in-law did it real cheap, or a friend who just started up his own business did it, or...well, the possibilities are endless.
DeleteThank you for the Belated Wishes. They are still much appreciated.
Belated birthday wishes! I stumbled on your post today out of sheer coincidence since... I didn't get the usual email reminder (and this time it wasn't even in my spam folder like before.)
ReplyDeleteI imagine your trips to the lakehouse are always a chance to kick back and relax, but... given the quarantine mindset we are all experiencing, it must feel like salvation right now! Mr. O. and I are going batshit in our 2nd floor condo (and clearly, no lakehouse, lol!). We did find a wonderful hiking trail about 2 miles from where we live where we go for a jaunt 3-4 times a week to stretch our legs and find some respite as we drink in the calm of all of the surrounding trees and other spring foliage. We go about half an hour before sunset so we don't run into too many folks; the ones who *are* there are wearing masks and everyone respects the *social distancing* rules, so hopefully we are O.K. on that front.
The sign on the truck!! Totally agree with The Bug's comment on the font: can't read it, and it's totally inappropriate for their business anyway (maybe for a beauty salon?!) I noticed the aesthetics even before inspecting the horrific spelling and grammar. I am especially intrigued with the squiggly thing and the hammer. Total advertising fail on all fronts! FYI: I couldn't resist googling the company name. It came up with a link to their FB page which does have correct grammar and spelling and says: "No *jobs* are too small or too big." (Same crappy font, however, lol.) Go figure.
Ortizzle--Thank you. And thanks for letting me know that you didn't get the email of my post. Do you get the whole post in email from Mailchimp, or are you subscribed via something else?
DeleteIt really does feel like a different world at the lake. We don't go anyplace (or think about it) while we're there, so there's no omnipresent thought of gloves/masks, sanitizing, etc. It's like a pre-COVID/post-COVID life. Our usual contact with neighbors is waving or talking to them from the road or boat or shoreline anyway. It's a relief to live Normally, just for a weekend.
Like you, my walks are a beneficial respite as well. It's easy enough to move out of someone's path (or, in my case, cross the street) and continue on. I love walking in the fresh air. It's calming and affirming. I'm so glad you and Mr. O. are both well and able at the same time to enjoy your stress-busting jaunts.
You and Bug are right, of course, about the irritating font on the truck. I am so blinded by rage because of the horrific grammar, punctuation, and spelling that I don't simmer down enough to get snotty about it until someone points it out. Then I'm happy to swipe at it, too. Your suggestion of beauty salon as its ideal use is perfect. And can someone, anyone, please tell me why Some People think slapping the American flag on their advertising (or trucks) is, I don't know...good? Or even appropriate? It makes me want to slap someone.
But I don't. Honest.
Re: email alerts... the last one I got was on April 18th and, yes, it was "Mailchimp" and contained the article in the body of the email.
DeleteUbiquitous use of the American flag on just about everything is driving me nuts, too. Particularly in these times when we have pretty much zero to be proud of. Sticking the flag on everything and waving flags out of car windows has become synonymous, for me, with Trumpsters trying to get 'in our faces' because they fancy that they're the only real patriots. Gaaaaahhh!
Ortizzle--Mailchimp allows me to pull up your profile, and it seems that you've been sent my posts regularly. You've even opened most of them; clicked on a few internal links; and have a 5-star subscriber rating! It seems that perhaps you're just overloaded with emails and mine get lost in the shuffle now and again. It's ok.
DeleteI think Yahoo is at fault. My email address is not Yahoo directly (it's swbell), but years ago it was migrated over to yahoo mail. It's not a question of the email getting 'lost in the shuffle', though (I get far more work email than personal stuff.) Years ago I created separate email subfolders and I use message rules so that incoming mail from people who frequently send me mail gets sorted automatically to the corresponding folder. For quite some time now, your blogpost notifications have been going directly to my inbox. I think the problem was that I should have updated my message rule for your folder, because on checking it now, it did not match the Mailchimp address. I have updated, so maybe it will start working for me. Regardless, your blog page is in my bookmark bar. :-)
