What can I say?
This was one of a parade of signs in front of a greenhouse/garden center, an established business of many years. I was zipping by at about forty miles per hour when I saw it and had to turn around in order to pull into the driveway and photograph it.
I was the only person in the parking lot; it was shortly before 1 PM, and the place was open for business. This sign has obviously driven all prospective customers away.
As it should.
You are a tough task master! Too bad you didn't have a red magic marker to correct the spelling. I have a great-niece who has done that. LOL
ReplyDeleteJean--I respectfully disagree with your characterization of me. Is it unreasonable to expect a business to correctly spell their products/wares on public advertising? Is proper spelling really something only a remote few care about? I hope not.
DeleteIt's all I can do NOT to correct signs like that. But since that one was obviously one they had specially made, I wouldn't want to get in trouble for defacing it. Or have to pay for it.
I did correct a sign at the grocery store last weekend, you'll be glad (?) to know. It advertised "Fidget Spinner's". Since it was hand-lettered on plain paper, I merely punched a hole through the
apostrophe. And felt better immediately.
Bwahaha!! I love that you punched a hole through the paper!!!
DeleteRose--I rummaged through my purse to find a Sharpie, but did not have one, and my pen refused to work, so I had no choice.
DeleteI hate that they paid someone to make that sign, and either no one noticed, or no one cared enough to fix it before they put the sign out there. If they go out of business, at least we will know why.
ReplyDeleteJ@jj.com--All of that is irritating and irresponsible. It takes SO LITTLE EFFORT to be correct. And, after all, IT'S THEIR PRODUCT! Grrr. I don't want anyone to go out of business, but I do want to smack them for their stupidity or apathy, either one.
DeleteOver on FB someone posted a Taco Bell sign saying they were closed because they were out of "meet". I hate bad spilling to! ;)
ReplyDeleteSillyak--Oh, brother. I guess the irony there is that their product is not pure meat to begin with anyway. Thanks for being a Hater, too. ;-)
DeleteGhouls with very round heads?
ReplyDeleteMary--Or something! Ghostly squash?
Deletelol. Ghords like chords, I guess. Is this intentionally wrong, a play on ghosts + gourds, OR just a mistake? Probably the latter, huh?
ReplyDeleteAlly Bean--It's a mistake. It was one of a series of signs, each one advertising two seasonal things. Cornstalks & mums, apples & cider, etc. This was the only one with a spelling error and none of them was trying to be "spooky".
