Bridget--You know, it really, really is. But not for his supporters, who are gleefully oblivious, focused as they are on their own narrow little realities. That's why, as Thomas Gray the poet so beautifully wrote,
Since sorrow never comes too late, And happiness too swiftly flies. Thought would destroy their paradise. No more; where ignorance is bliss, 'Tis folly to be wise.
Thanks for the tip on that tshirt. I'm adding that graphic to my sidebar.
Jill--Thanks for the link. Rick and I just had this discussion a day or so ago. Pence is far less embarrassing and shameful, but I detest his politics, truly, among other things. It's interesting to go a step further and speculate--just for fun--the ramifications of Robert Mueller's investigation, should its tentacles reach so deeply into the workings of the entire campaign that it delegitimizes the election's outcome, period. Hmmm...!
Vera--I drive by campaign signs in yards EVERY DAY. The more he looks like an idiot or an outrage, the more they crop up. It's scary. His base is sheer ignorance and incivility, period. They will never, ever falter. He was right when he said, "I could go out in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot someone and I wouldn't lose any votes." The day I start to even remotely understand how They "think" is the day someone should take me to a doctor.
It's horrific. And the fact that Trump's idiotic re-tweet (of him hitting H.C. with a golfball) did not upset more people is so telling, isn't it? Anyone still supporting this man should just take a seat; I have had enough. Their support, after that, tells me all I need to know; no excuses. And don't get me started on the cartoon-like speech he gave at the U.N. Sweet Jesus.
Everyday it is something else with him and all of his republican cronies. Healthcare is in the balance again, the insanity of it all is amazing. Yet there are gleeful voters so happy with his pathetic and ridiculous agenda. Of and the First Lady, don't even get me started on her speech to at the UN, really? Is she aware her husband is the biggest cyber bully out there?
Meredith--Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. This latest attempt to repeal and replace is even worse. I have been on the phone for two mornings, bombarding senators from many states, urging No votes. That I have been signing petitions and emailing goes without saying. I do that as a matter of course on a variety of issues every single day.
It is nothing short of Outrageous and Insulting that these individuals carry on every single day with impunity, blatantly flaunting it in our faces that they can do whatever they want, say whatever they want, and not one Real Live Person With A Conscience who also has power will Speak Truth To Power and call them on it. It is absolutely disgusting and pathetic and tragic.
I don't care for The Donald, and am taking perverse pleasure in all the nicknames that people give him. Currently grooving on Desiccated Yam, but Cheeto Hilter is a good one, too. That being said, I keep close tabs on what he's doing, never missing an opportunity to slam him. Sounds childish, but the people who I know that support him understand mocking more than facts-- and don't want to be associated with a loser. So I frame him as a loser.
Ally Bean--I wish his supporters recognized Facts. Those are the things which prove him a Loser. It's hard to reach people who are so firmly in denial and entrenched in extremism and ignorance.
What with Trump & the wrath of Mother Nature it really feels like the end times. It's hard not to just be in a state of shock all the time. On the other hand, I got a kick out of this headline that popped up on my phone yesterday evening (I subscribe to the Washington Post & get their alerts): Breaking News: North Korean leader responds to Trump: "I will surely and definitely tame the mentally deranged U.S. dotard with fire." Of course, since that would probably include all the people in the dotard's country, I should be more alarmed than amused...
Your last sentence is what gets lost so often in all this bravado-style talk of war and "bombing the hell out of______." A country is PEOPLE. And its leader, while the de facto spokesperson, is not going to be who pays the cost of of such talk.
It is a strange world indeed when Kim Jong-Un can provide a better description of the POTUS than anyone else. And the late night comedians are more informed that our elected Congressional Representatives and Senators. We are definitely living in a Bizarro World. And I don't care much for it.
Maya told me a joke she heard where a man is in an accident, and to determine whether he is OK or not, the police officer asks him some questions. "What year is it?" "2017". "What month is it?" "September". "Who is President of the US?" "Oh F*ck".
It's just so exhausting.
ReplyDeleteI saw a guy with a t-shirt the other day that said: The two darkest days in US history: 9/11 and 11/9.
Sigh.

It is exhausting, but I'm not sure we'd be much better off under "President Pence", god help us. Gail Collins had an excellent column today.

DeleteI had someone come to the house last year with a Trump mask and I didn't like giving him any candy. LOL
ReplyDeleteJean R.--I completely understand.
DeleteThe only reason to have black licorice on hand
DeleteSo tiresome. Can't believe there are still supporters of this insanity.

ReplyDeleteElle Clancy--And his wife is championing the cause of Doing Something About Cyberbullying. As one person on Twitter said, "Irony is dead." Heavy Sigh.

ReplyDeleteGina--I completely agree, and do it in every forum.
DeleteThat's one of the better photos I've seen of DJT.!
ReplyDeletejoared--I think it captures him perfectly.
