Bug Stuff, The Movie!

I just could not Let It Go.

I'll be back here in a day or so--which you all know is NanceSpeak for a week, more likely--with something more substantial. But this damn Technical Difficulty was not going to break me.

You were going to watch this mantis eat her mate whether you cared or not. Gosh, I feel better.

Carry on.

  1. Not me, I am not going to watch nature-porn take its course. Yuck! LOL

    1. Jean--That's of course your privilege. But it's here if you ever decide you can't stand it anymore and just have to take a peek. It's only 10 seconds, after all. ;-)

  2. I'll pass on watching the video but I give you kudos for making sure it is here for us. You are, indeed, a wonderfully conscientious blogger.

    1. Ally Bean--Thank you. I prefer "conscientious" to "obsessive compulsive" or "one-track minded" anyday.

The video will always be here if your Curiosity ever gets the best of you.

    1. Ellen D.--Thanks for watching. It's not the most pleasant part of Nature, that's true, but I find it fascinating.

  4. Gross for sure. Reminds me of the card we bought and have framed hanging in our downstairs bathroom. The female praying mantis says to the male: "After we have sex but before I kill you, I'm going to need some help with some shelves." Cracks me up every time I look at it!

I love that caption on your bathroom art. It cracks me up, too.

  5. Well, in some ways a quick death is more humane...right? At least I like to think so.

    1. Anni--I think so, too. Thanks for indulging my pathology and taking the time to watch.

  6. We had mantises Having on the rose bush. We didn't stick around to see if it ended badly for Mr. Mantis. We didn't find any parts lying around, so who knows...

    1. Minerva--Long, long ago in the earliest days of this blog, I made a vow that if there was Animal News happening, I would do my very best to bring it to you. So, as you see, I had No Choice here.

I found no parts at all lying around. She ate every bit of him, and looked quite tubby after.

  7. How lucky we are not to be mantises or Donner or Reeds!!!! ahhhhhhhh. I saw a mantis last week and went to pick it up and boy did it FLY. I had no idea they flew. They are cool creatures! Thanks

  8. I’m interested, but cannot bring myself to watch! It’s like a snuff film! I love that you finally got everything working so you could show it, though.

    1. J@jj--It is kind of a snuff film. But it's not really yucky in that no stuff comes squirting out or anything. And the only noise is my fussy cat Marlowe meowing in the background. I THINK YOU CAN HANDLE IT.

I actually had to create a YouTube channel and go that route. Nothing is too much work for my Dear Readers.

  9. Yay! So glad you were successful! And nature is just fascinating - even if sometimes you have to squint & look at it sideways. (Actually, this was not at all gory to me. What does that say?)

    1. Bug--I'm glad, too. Blogger still wouldn't allow me to simply upload my own film, so I had to create a YouTube channel and do it that way.

No, it's not gory at all. There's nothing drippy or squishy or anything. It's fairly clinical, really. No different than you or I eating a corn dog or a banana. (Not that I would eat a corn dog. I was mainly thinking of a food with a tallish, oblong shape. I'm not a fan of hot dogs, period, even wrapped in cornbread.)

  14. Posting this realistic but gory video seemed so uncharacteristic for you, Nance. LOL Isn't it good to know that you're still unpredictable?

    1. Shirley--Does it really? Well, there you go; I guess I really am unpredictable! It is good to know after all these years. ;-)
